Having typical Irish skin, which is fair, pale, and more thank likely sensitive than not, is both a blessing and a curse.

While our pale complexions are coveted by many, we do have our fair share of problems to deal with.

Dry skin conditions and easily sunburnt skin are major issues for Irish gals, and unfortunately this means that our skin can age a lot faster than we would like.

One in twenty adults suffer from eczema in Ireland, while many others have to deal with psoriasis and other skin sensitivities and redness like rosacea.

Even if you don’t have a diagnosed condition, your skin can be sensitised to certain chemicals and react to specific ingredients in an unfavourable way.

In an interview with The Telegraph, Sophie Seite, International Scientific Director of La Roche-Posay, explains: ‘Dry, sensitive and reactive skin types, and those that are exposed to aggressive cosmetic routines, tend to have a dysfunctional barrier, which increases sensitivity and can exacerbate ageing.’

Helping to heal your skin barrier can help to slow down the ageing process, as the stronger the skin barrier is the more moisture your skin can retain, allowing it to look and feel plump and firm.

This is why sensitive skin care is so important, not only for people who suffer from skin conditions.

Winter weather can exacerbate our dry sensitive skin conditions.

Sensitive skin care formulas tend to be hydrating and packed full of ingredients to reduce inflammation.
